I was born and raised in Klamath Falls where I attended Hosanna Christian School and Oregon Institute of Technology. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in accounting, I attended Liberty University where I earned my master’s degree. I work as a staff accountant at WISE & Company and am currently studying to take the test to earn my CPA license.
My husband and I were married very young and we just celebrated our 6-year anniversary and are looking forward to all life still has in store for us. We have two dogs, a lab and a hound.
Growing up I tried just about every sport but loved playing volleyball. I stayed active and in shape playing volleyball but once I graduated high school, college and life seemed to take up so much of my time, I felt as though I did not have time to focus on my fitness. When I started my accounting job, sitting all day long, I noticed how sluggish and weak I was becoming. I started to try working out at home but was not motivated and had no idea what I was doing.
A friend was telling me about CrossFit Hogback and how I should try it out, I was very hesitant because I did not know much about it, but I knew working out was not really my thing. I saw on Facebook that there was a foundations class for CrossFit Hogback and reluctantly I decided to try it out hoping maybe I would get some ideas to use for my workouts at home. After my first class I came home and told my husband “I love this gym, I have to join”. Now I look forward to the days I go to the gym and am continually amazed about how far I have come from when I started.
When I started CrossFit, I knew it would improve my physical health. I became stronger and my stamina increased. I never expected it to impact other areas of my life. Not long before I began CrossFit I was diagnosed with clinical depression. It was something I had struggled with for a long time. Exercise has been known to help ease symptoms of depression and CrossFit really has done that for me. It makes my bad days good and my good days even better. It was something I was able to find interest in and be motivated to do. It also helped me be more social. When I started CrossFit, I was a very introverted person, I had few friends and was afraid to meet new people. The community at CrossFit Hogback has helped me make so many friends and helped me to become a more outgoing person. It gave me confidence in myself and showed me how much I am capable of.
My overall goal is to just stay healthy and in shape. But currently I am determined to get a strict pullup! And I know with hard work and the help of the coaches I am going to be able to do it one day.
Give it a try, just once. It does not matter if you are in shape, it does not matter your age. Every workout can be modified to fit your physical abilities. CrossFit is an investment in yourself that will improve your quality of life for years to come. Come and try out a Saturday class, they are free, or contact the gym about dropping in
The coaches and the community. The coaches care about everyone who comes through their door. They are very passionate about what they do, and they work hard to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly and efficiently. The coaches not only encourage you and push you to do your best, but they celebrate your victories with you, whether it is a lift you finally got that you have struggled with or you got a new personal record.
The community is incredible! I felt welcomed the first time I came to the gym. There is a large range of people that go to CrossFit Hogback; young and old, people who have done CrossFit for years and those who have just started; husbands and wives, parents and their children. This group of very different people have come together and created a family. People that finish a workout first cheer on those who are not yet finished. Workouts end with fist bumps, high fives, and words of encouragement. And though this community is close knit they are always ready to welcome new people in and make them a part of the family as well.
